SHIATSUWhat is Shiatsu? (Sorry, no longer available)
Shiatsu, literally meaning ‘finger pressure’, is a form of bodywork therapy that originates in Japan. Like acupuncture, to which it is closely related, it has its roots in traditional principles of Oriental Medicine. The body’s vital energy or Ki flows along specific pathways through the body, known as Meridians.
A practitioner uses not only fingers but also thumbs, palms, elbows and sometimes knees to apply pressure along these meridians and on specific Acupuncture points. This has the effect of releasing and balancing the flow of Ki within the whole body, effectively stimulating the body’s own healing response.
The Flow of Ki through the meridian system regulates functions on all levels of being, meaning that Shiatsu can promote healing physically, emotionally, psychologically and spiritually.Benefits of Shiatsu

The session usually lasts for about an hour. During the first session I will ask you some general questions about your health and lifestyle. We can discuss any particular concerns you have and clarify what you want to experience from your shiatsu session. This will be followed by the Shiatsu itself which usually lasts around 40 or 45 minutes. At the end you will have a few minutes to
discuss the session and ask any questions.
The Shiatsu will normally take place on a futon mat at floor level and I will make sure that you are comfortable. If you are unable to lie down on the floor, please contact me to discuss an alternative – it is possible to do Shiatsu with the receiver seated on the floor or in a chair or massage chair. You will remain fully clothed at all times and no oils or lotions are used.Your first Session
Please wear something loose and comfortable to your Shiatsu treatment, such as a tracksuit or something similar. It is advisable not to eat a heavy meal or drink alcohol just prior to the treatment.
